Rangers v Ross County postponed in Scottish Premiership

Rangers have confirmed that the Scottish Premiership fixture against Ross County at Ibrox on Wednesday 27 December has been postponed.

The Bears announced the news early this afternoon with travel conditions meaning that the away side could not make it to Glasgow in time.

This is despite the playing surface at Ibrox remaining in good playing condition with a new date for the fixture to be announced soon.

The official statement read: “Rangers can confirm this evening’s Scottish Premiership fixture with Ross County has been postponed.

“Despite the Ibrox playing surface being in good condition and ready to host the match, adverse weather conditions on the A9 means our visitors have been unable to reach Glasgow.”

Joke.

This is simply not good enough.

The only positive of this announcement is that it has come early enough for fans not to travel and can allow them to plan other things ahead of New Year’s.

Ross County had more than enough time to plan their travel arrangements with the weather causing havoc for a couple of weeks now in Scotland, with other fixtures previously called off.

Derek Adams’ side should have travelled to Glasgow on Boxing Day to make sure of things, rather than leaving it down to hope on the day of the game.

That being said, it now allows Philippe Clement time to evaluate the fitness of his squad ahead of the huge Old Firm derby with Celtic over the upcoming weekend.

If it gives the likes of Connor Goldson an extra couple of days to prove his fitness, then it could certainly prove worthwhile, but everyone involved in football will always say they want to play games.

Now it is down to the SPFL to organise and sort another game-in-hand for Rangers as they look to regain the title in a few months’ time.
