Rangers transfer news as door is now open for Kevin Van Veen

Rangers have lined up a January swoop for Groningen striker Kevin van Veen already ahead of the window, according to the Scottish Daily Mail.

The newspaper reported in its print edition [27 December, back page] that the Bears are exploring a deal with a promotion bid faltering back in Holland.

Philippe Clement enters his first transfer window at Ibrox still unbeaten and on the verge of catching Celtic, but injuries are certainly taking their toll.

The newspaper also reported [pg 69] that the door is open for Clement to sign the towering forward, who would be available for a knockdown fee in the market.

With Danilo and Kemar Roofe injured yet again, it currently leaves Cyriel Dessers as the only concrete option in the final third for the Belgian.

Clement Rangers

Cheap.

Rangers have far too often turned their noses up at players proven in Scotland.

Van Veen has more than done that during his time with Motherwell, single-handily carrying them up the tables at times before his exit across the summer.

Even if it was just a six-month loan until the end of the season, that would hand Clement a ready-made goalscorer without having to spend millions like Michael Beale did in the summer.

John Bennett has already said that money will be available for Clement, but that doesn’t mean he has to throw it at anything that comes his way.

It looks as though Groningen are ready to part ways with Van Veen already, and that should open the door for the Bears to make their perfect January transfer early on in the window.

Leon Balogun has proven that age is just a number at Ibrox, and if the Dutch striker can perform on a similar level, he will have no issues finding the back of the net.

This is one to watch already.

In other Rangers news, one Ibrox-linked player is surely on the move after his “crystal ball” comments.
