Sky Sports journalist wowed by ‘very impressive’ Ross McCausland in Rangers 2-0 win v Motherwell

Ross McCausland was “very impressive” in the first half of the match between Rangers and Motherwell, according to Sky Sports journalist Laura Hunter.

The winger started and played 72 minutes as the Gers defeated Motherwell 2-0 at Fir Park on Sunday (24 December).

Kieran Dowell and Todd Cantwell were on the scoresheet for the visitors in the Christmas Eve Scottish Premiership clash.

“I’m a big fan of the way Ross McCausland moves with the ball,” said Hunter, as per Sky Sports (24 December). “So much maturity about that first-half display.

“He gives Rangers wonderful balance, and is always positive, driving forwards and forcing openings. Very impressive.”

Young star

McCausland certainly caused problems during his time on the pitch at Fir Park, with the youngster constantly driving at the Motherwell defence.

He was a threat right up until the moment Philippe Clement decided to give him a much-needed rest, with fellow winger Scott Wright replacing McCausland with just under 20 minutes remaining.

The young Northern Ireland ace is causing quite the stir at the Ibrox club, and looks set to continue his rise in the coming months.

He is a great option for Clement, with his pace and directness causing problems for some of the league’s most experienced defenders.

Given that he is only 20 years old, McCausland will need to be managed properly, and Clement and his staff must acknowledge this.

While the attacker will be keen to play as much as possible, in as many competitions as possible, he must not be overused at this crucial stage of his development.
