Scott Arfield wants Rangers to sign Lawrence Shankland as ‘incredible’ Hearts footage emerges on Sky Sports

Scott Arfield wants Rangers to sign Hearts striker Lawrence Shankland after his two goals in their win against St Mirren.

The player netted a double as the Edinburgh outfit defeated St Mirren 2-0 at Tynecastle on Saturday (23 December).

The 28-year-old now has 15 goals from his 25 appearances in all competitions this season, with 10 coming in the league.

“This goal is incredible, for me it is going to be the goal of the season,” Arfield said of Shankland’s first against St Mirren [Sky Sports, 24 December].

And when asked if he would like to see Shankland at Rangers, Arfield replied: “I would love to see him there. I just think that there is sort of thing at Rangers and Celtic where they don’t really truly invest in Scottish players. It just doesn’t happen for whatever reason.

“You’ve got a proven goalscorer there, and if Rangers want to fully invest I think they’re incredibly wrong not to get Shankland, especially in this vein of form.”

Top player

Shankland is, of course, a top player, and he has been for quite some time, but it would take quite an effort to convince Hearts to lose their main man.

The striker has proven time and again that he has what it takes to bang in the goals at this level, with the Scotland international also impressing for the national team in recent times.

Along with 10 Scottish Premiership goals this season, the hitman netted twice in the League Cup and three times in the Europa Conference League qualifiers.

Rangers did try and improve their front line in the summer transfer window after the departure of Alfredo Morelos from Ibrox.

Michael Beale brought the likes of Cyriel Dessers, Danilo and Sam Lammers to the club on permanent deals, with Abdallaha Sima arriving on loan.

But not all have impressed since joining, meaning Philippe Clement could be in the market for a new striker next month.
