Rangers striker Danilo injury news emerges as Doctor shares MCL surgery diagnosis

We’re delighted to welcome injury expert Dr Rajpal Brar as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the injury situation at Rangers...

Rangers striker Danilo needs surgery on his ruptured MCL as there is further damage in other muscles as well, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.

The injury expert claims that it appears to be a full rupture and that the recovery will first be to establish basic mobility and strength.

It has been reported that he will miss first-team football for the next four months with an April return looking to be on the cards.

Discussing his situation exclusively with Ibrox News, Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, said:

This sounds like a full rupture of the medial collateral ligament (MCL).

Surgery taking place may indicate further damage in other muscles as well that needs to be addressed via surgery which may include meniscus, tibial plateau fracture, etc.

The recovery will first focus on re-establishing baseline mobility and strength and then progressing those along with neuromuscular coordination while then integrating sport-specific activities.

Rangers

Rangers may use the January market to sign a replacement for Danilo as things have not transpired as Philippe Clement would’ve wanted.

Halfway through the season, he does not have a reliable out-and-out number nine and while Abdallah Sima can do that, he fancies playing off the left.

Lawrence Shankland is a name that has been mentioned and he could be brought in while Danilo continues his rehabilitation.

Cyriel Dessers has failed to hit the ground running so he’s not as high in the pecking order as many would’ve expected him to be when he moved to the club.

In other Rangers news, the club may now look to sign an international striker in January amid a £2.3m development this week.
