Dujon Sterling stinks out Fir Park, Todd Cantwell produces masterclass – Rangers player ratings v Motherwell

Rangers continued their fine run of form under Philippe Clement with a straightforward victory against Motherwell.

The Gers won the Scottish Premiership clash 2-0 at Fir Park on Sunday (24 December), with Kieran Dowell and Todd Cantwell scoring the goals.

The Rangers number one had another quiet afternoon on the road, with Motherwell struggling to break down the visitors. The goalkeeper was forced into just one punch [Sofascore].

An unusually quiet match for the Rangers captain, who was not allowed to get forward as much as he would have liked, with Tavernier losing possession 30 times.

Connor Goldson – 7

Another assured display from the centre-back, with the defender making four clearances, behind only Motherwell’s Shane Blaney (five).

Leon Balogun – 7

Again Balogun was rock solid at the back at Fir Park, with his four tackles leading the way for the visitors on the road.

Ridvan Yilmaz – 6

The left-back did not look out of place amid the absence of Borna Barisic, with Yilmaz chipping in going forward with one key pass.

Kieran Dowell – 8

An impressive display in midfield yet again from the summer arrival following his recent return, with Dowell slotting into the role effortlessly, completing 84% of his passes against Motherwell.

Dujon Sterling – 4

A tough afternoon for the summer signing, who was admittedly playing out of position in midfield, with Sterling completing just 67% of his passes and receiving a yellow card.

Ross McCausland – 5

The exciting youngster tried to be lively in the final third, but he couldn’t quite have a lasting impact, with McCausland registering just 16 passes.

Todd Cantwell – 9 (Man of the Match)

The attacker started very brightly at Fir Park and indeed maintained that tempo throughout the match, with Cantwell making four key passes alongside his goal. He also completed his only cross and dribble, as well as hitting the post.

Abdallah Sima – 7

Sima was a threat going forward, but he also put in a defensive shift to help Yilmaz, with the Rangers loanee winning three of his four aerial duels.

Cyriel Dessers – 7

The striker continued his impressive feats under Clement with another important shift up top, with the summer signing making two tackles alongside his early assist for Dowell.
