David Edgar facepalms after what Cyriel Dessers did for Rangers in clash v Motherwell
David Edgar has been left facepalming after Cyriel Dessers once again scored only to see his strike ruled out for Rangers in their 2-0 win over Motherwell.
The Light Blues claimed all three points at Fir Park on Sunday (24 December) thanks to first-half strikes from Kieran Dowell and Todd Cantwell, to move within two points of Celtic at the top of the Premiership with a game in hand.
Rangers had the chances to extend their lead in the second half and twice Dessers thought he’d added to his goal tally only to linesman’s flag raised, but the under-fire star has done this so many times it has no longer become a surprise to the club’s official media partner Edgar.
Writing on the Heart & Hand Podcast Twitter account (24 December) he said: “Of course he’s offside” partnered with a facepalm emoji.
Born offside
We’ve lost count of how many goals Dessers has managed to score now only to look around and see the linesman’s flag raised to curtail his celebrations. Few players in the world must have had this many goals ruled out by officials this season.
The Nigerian forward added a further two to his tally at Fir Park on Sunday as he twice calmly slotted into the Motherwell net, only for both strikes to be ruled out because he had drifted into an offside position.

When Rangers manage to win games, supporters can almost let this slide as ultimately it didn’t prove to matter against Motherwell as Dowell and Cantwell’s goals had already put it beyond the home side, but in closer games, Dessers must improve.
The Light Blues thought that they had signed a new forward capable of scoring 20 goals a season when they signed Dessers this summer and while he is underperforming compared to that tally, he would be matching it if he could stay onside.
Hopefully, Rangers supporters can take some comfort from the fact the 19-year-old did finish both chances, even if neither of them actually counted.
