Rangers to bank seven-figure Malik Tillman transfer windfall after what PSV chief said

Rangers look set to receive a £1.4million transfer windfall in January as part of a permanent deal for Malik Tillman to join PSV in January, according to the Daily Record.

Tillman spent last season on loan at Ibrox, but the club agreed to forfeit their option to buy in favour of a £1million payment from Bayern Munich to allow him to move to PSV.

Also included in that deal was a 10 per cent sell-on fee for Rangers if Tillman was to make his loan deal permanent, and according to PSV technical director Earnie Stewart, the £14million option to buy now looks set to be triggered.

As reported by the Daily Record [21 December], Stewart shared: “It is true there is an option to sign both Malik Tillman and Sergino Dest and there is an expectation we will do that with both of them. Fortunately, both of them have indicated they want to stay in Eindhoven.

“That is of course also very important. As a club, you can want anything, but a player is very important in this. You first discuss it with the player and his management. But things are going very well for Malik and Sergino.”

Every little helps

While £1.4million may not be much in the grand scheme of things, putting that into the transfer kitty for the January transfer window could make all the difference when it comes to recruiting new options to improve the strength of Philippe Clement’s side.

The boss has spoken extensively about the need to improve his team and add new options to the squad after the summer transfer window under Michael Beale left the squad unbalanced – something the new boss urgently wants to address.

If Rangers receive the extra transfer windfall from the Tillman deal it could expand the number of options available to them as well as the amount of money they’ll be willing to spend in the pursuit of new players.

Transfer fees which may previously have been just out of reach for those at the top at Ibrox may now look more achievable, so fingers will be crossed at Rangers that PSV can complete their transfer deal in the January window.
