James Bisgrove ‘active’ despite Rangers silence amid UEFA development
Rangers’ James Bisgrove is said to be “active” with the European Club Association (ECA) amid a reignition of the Super League, according to Scottish Daily Mail.
The online news outlet reported [22 December] that the Gers’ chief executive has been involved with the UEFA-backed ECA, despite there being no official club statement as of yet.
Aberdeen chairman Dave Cormack was quick to suggest that both Rangers and Celtic would be open to a breakaway to the Super League but the latter have already rejected the idea, with the hope that the former will be right behind them.

Celtic’s chairman, Peter Lawwell is involved with the ECA as a vice chair, which cements the Hoops’ position on the breakaway competition without even needing a statement.
Tell the truth
Many clubs across Europe have already rejected the reignited Super League plans, with club statements popping up here, there and everywhere. There is an anxious wait for Rangers to post theirs.
However, Bisgrove’s involvement with an association against Florentino Perez’s plans can help fans sigh with relief as Rangers are also expected to turn down the competition.
Due to a recent ruling, stating that UEFA acted “unlawfully” when banning clubs from attempting to break away to a new, controversial league in 2021. With the proposal said to include 64 teams, three divisions and 32 Women’s teams, it is likely that Rangers would be involved if they signed up to it.

Many fans will have the opinion that the Super League is bad for football, though. And the continuous stream of club statements rejecting the proposal shows that hierarchies are listening to their fans, unlike some in 2021.
Rangers need to release a statement as soon as possible, however. The more time passes without one, the more fans will become worried that the Gers are contemplating a move away from the Champions League and Europa League.
