Cyriel Dessers might not be safe from Philippe Clement axe after January transfer news emerges

Cyriel Dessers has been a much-maligned figure at Rangers at times this season.

Brought to the club from Cremonese in the summer as one of nine Michael Beale signings, Dessers has been patchy at best for the Lighe Blues.

But the 29-year-old striker is arguably in the best form of his Rangers tenure thus far. His goal in the 2-0 victory over St Johnstone on Wednesday (20 December) made it four is his past six outings.

It is fair to say that he underwhelmed as Rangers lifted the Viaplay Cup trophy with a 1-0 triumph over Aberdeen at Hampden on Sunday (17 December).

Then again, a lot of players – from both sides – underwhelmed. That was a game where it was just about getting the job done and ultimately Rangers did.

However, it was a sort of timely reminder that Rangers are lacking some firepower, especially with Danilo sidelined for the foreseeable future with a knee injury.

So it was not much of a surprise to see Rangers linked with a striker on Thursday (21 December).

According to Portuguese news outlet O Jogo, the Gers are battling Old Firm rivals and clubs in Spain for Wolves’ 21-year-old striker Fabio Silva.

Silva made the move to Molineux for a reported £35.6million back in 2020 (BBC Sport) but has struggled to become a regular, spending time on loan at Anderlecht and PSV last term.

He has eight Premier League appearances for Wolves this term, three as a starter, but is yet to register in the top flight.

He does, though, fit the sort of age and profile Clement will be looking to work with and a move to Ibrox might be the sort of switch to help realise his once prodigious potential.

If he is to sign on at Rangers, though, it might not be the best news for Dessers, regardless of his current good form.

In other Rangers news, Kenny Miller expects one player to push for an exit after what he saw versus St Johnstone.
