Rangers: David Edgar shares Alfredo Morelos transfer update after what he’s heard at Ibrox

Heart & Hand Podcast host David Edgar has reported he has been told that rumours about a possible return to Rangers for Alfredo Morelos are untrue.

Edgar insisted the Light Blues are not interested in a move to bring their former striker back to Ibrox despite speculation after he became available on a free transfer.

This comes after Philippe Clement answered a question directly about a possible return [The Scottish Sun, 10 December] where he refused to comment, leading to widespread speculation.

Writing via the Heart & Hand Podcast Twitter account [20 December], Edgar simply shared: “I’m told rumours about Morelos are untrue. Club not interested.”

The deal never looked likely

Despite plenty of talk around Ibrox about a possible return for Morelos after Santos were shockingly relegated from the top division in Brazil, it never seemed likely that a return to Glasgow would be on the cards for the former Rangers hitman.

Much of the talk appeared to have come from sections of the fanbase clamouring for his return after the mixed success of the forwards brought to the club by Michael Beale in the summer transfer window, rather than any official links or reports about the deal.

His 78 SPFL goals scored between 2017 and 2023 now have Rangers fans longing for that sort of return once more, but times have changed at Ibrox and the club needs to move in a new direction.

Rangers

When Morelos was allowed to leave at the end of his contract in the summer, it signified a changing of the guard at Rangers, and to go back on that almost immediately would be more worrying than letting him go in the first place.
