Doctor issues injury update as Hearts loanee Alex Lowry consults Rangers for treatment

We’re delighted to welcome injury expert Dr Rajpal Brar as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the injury situation at Rangers...

Hearts midfielder Alex Lowry, who is on loan from Rangers, appears to be ruled out with discomfort in his back muscles, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.

Edinburgh News reported that the 20-year-old is undergoing treatment from medical staff of both sides as he aims to return to first-team football again.

The injury expert believes that this is a normal situation and it does not appear to be a neurologic issue that will keep him out longer.

Discussing his situation exclusively with Ibrox News, Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, said:

“It is normal for the parent club to be involved in the rehabilitation of a loanee.

“The best case scenario would be some muscular discomfort whereas the worst case would be something neurologic like a disc herniation which is creating pain.

Based on the timeline he’s expected to return, it sounds more like the former than anything closer to the latter which looks to be the primary cause.

The 20-year-old was sent out on loan to play regular first-team football which will aid his development.

Rangers undoubtedly view him as a future first-team player and he’s made 11 league appearances this season and most of them having been from the start.

It remains to be seen how he will be once he returns, but his injury does not appear to be a serious one and he could be back within days.

In other Rangers news, the club may now look to sign an international striker in January amid a £2.3m development this week.
