Sam Lammers has again let Philippe Clement down, Rangers manager must make amends at half-time vs St Johnstone

Philippe Clement made full use of his Rangers squad depth for Wednesday’s (20 December) Scottish Premiership clash with St Johnstone.

The Belgian changed half of his outfield players on the back of the 1-0 Viaplay Cup final win over Aberdeen three days ago.

One of those alterations came in attacking midfield, where Sam Lammers was preferred to the benched Todd Cantwell.

However, midway through the match and Clement must be wondering what he was thinking.

Lammers had just 18 touches of the ball, which was the fewest of any Rangers outfielder to play the whole first half [Sofascore].

The Dutchman also did not register any key passes – James Tavernier registered four, for context – and did not record any dribbles. His only shot, meanwhile, was right at Dimitar Mitov.

This is a familiar tale, as Lammer has failed to register a single goal involvement in any of his past nine matches.

Indeed, he has just two goals and one assist in 29 outings in all competitions prior to the St Johnstone clash.

Clement not only has Cantwell among his substitutes, but also the likes of Scott Wright, Rabbi Matondo and Robby McCrorie.

Unfortunately, it is surely it is time to accept that Lammers has very little to offer this Rangers side.

Rangers may be sitting comfortably at the interval thanks to Cyriel Dessers’ goal and Diallang Jaiyesimi’s red card, but Clement cannot afford to keep any passengers on the field.

In other Rangers news, a rival manager has completely lost the plot with comments made regarding the Gers.
