Todd Cantwell and Cyriel Dessers dropped as forgotten man handed recall – Rangers confirmed XI v St Johnstone

Rangers boss Philippe Clement has named his starting line-up for Wednesday’s (20 December) Scottish Premiership clash with St Johnstone.

The Gers are back in action at Ibrox three days on from their Viaplay Cup final triumph over Aberdeen at Hampden Park.

With the quick turnaround in matches in mind, and a trip to Motherwell to also come this week, Clement has made five changes.

Rangers confirmed their starting line-up and substitutes on their official Twitter account [20 December].

Mass changes

Todd Cantwell and fellow Englishman Dujon Sterling are among those to drop down to the bench, along with Borna Barisic, Cyriel Dessers and Leon Balogun.

Among those to come into the side is Kieran Dowell, who is handed just his second Scottish Premiership start of the campaign, and a first appearance of any sort since 1 November.

Rangers

John Souttar, Ridvan Yilmaz, Sam Lammers and Kemar Roofe are the other four players recalled to the starting line-up.

Clement was always expected to freshen up his side for the visit of St Johnstone, but rotating out half the outfield starters is still a risky strategy.

One player who will perhaps be disappointed not to have been given the nod given the mass changes is Rabbi Matondo, who was an unused substituted against Aberdeen at the weekend.

Rangers enter the match unbeaten in 14 matches under Clement and can close the gap on league leaders Celtic to two points with a game in hand should they beat St Johnstone.

In other Rangers news, a rival manager has completely lost the plot with comments he made regarding the Gers and Celtic.
