Barry Robson slammed for ‘worst’ Aberdeen display after more complaints about Rangers – David Tanner
Barry Robson’s complaints over the Viaplay Cup final loss to Rangers after the “worst Dons performance at Hampden in living memory” have been dismissed by David Tanner.
The talkSPORT broadcaster reacted via Twitter on 20 December to the Aberdeen boss’ claims that his side were denied two clear penalties in the 1-0 defeat on Sunday, to point at the lack of quality instead.
Tanner pointed to Robson was also complaining in the opposite direction after his side conceded a late spot kick to the Light Blues in the 1-1 draw at Pittodrie on 26 November, claiming he “stretched credibility” then and was now trying to deflect attention from his own side’s failings in the cup final.
Tanner wrote: “When Robbo criticised last month’s stonewall pen for Rangers by saying: ‘Not every pull of a shirt inside the penalty box is a penalty,’ he stretched credibility.
“Reality: the worst Dons performance at Hampden in living memory – and I was there when Robbie Winters went in goal.”
Fallout
On one hand it could be argued that the decisions in the cup final were missed and the refereeing inconsistencies are a problem, although it would have also stretched credibility to suggest Aberdeen were worth the win at the weekend.
But on the other hand if Robson was complaining when it went one way and then still complaining when it went the other way his view is likely to be ignored.
In fairness to the Dons boss he has come out on the wrong side of it both times but after he baffled pundits in defending his side’s performance after the game where they only had one shot on target he’s probably undercut himself.

James Tavernier’s 115th Rangers goal secured the first silverware of the season from an attritional game in miserable conditions, to provide an early marker for the revival under Philippe Clement.
The Belgian would quite possible have been unhappy if he was in Robson’s position, but would likely have been equally upset if his side had offered so little going forward.
Ultimately it was clearly a very disappointing day from a Dons point of view and a hugely important one from a Gers perspective, to provide the ideal point to build from as attention turns to a rejuvenated SPFL title race.
In other Rangers news, the Light Blues are now working together with Hearts in search of a solution over an attacking ace.
