Tom English shares Rangers ‘treble’ verdict after Viaplay Cup final win v Aberdeen
Rangers have won a “treble of sorts” after defeating Aberdeen in the Viaplay Cup final, according to BBC Sport journalist Tom English.
The Gers won the clash 1-0 at Hampden Park on Sunday (17 December), with James Tavernier scoring the only goal of the game.
The win comes after they defeated Real Betis 3-2 in the Europa League, with fierce rivals Celtic having lost 2-0 to Hearts on Saturday (16 December).

“This has been a week of weeks for this club – an outstanding win in Seville to top their Europa League group on Thursday, a faltering Celtic blowing open the league title race on Saturday, and a trophy on Sunday,” English wrote for BBC Sport (17 December). “A treble of sorts. A springboard, for sure.”

Stunning
It has been a simply stunning time for Rangers lately, with manager Philippe Clement really enjoying his time in the Ibrox dugout since taking over from Michael Beale.
The former boss was struggling to produce such results earlier in the campaign, but those struggles have long been forgotten about.
Clement has completely transformed the club, with the manager passing his toughest test so far after a superb few days.
Against the odds, Rangers topped their Europa League group with a dramatic 3-2 win away to Real Betis on Thursday (14 December), having given themselves an uphill task due to very disappointing results against minnows Aris Limassol.
The Gers then followed that five-goal thriller up with a narrow win against Scottish Premiership rivals Aberdeen in the cup.
And giving supporters further reason to be overjoyed right now was Celtic’s defeat to Hearts, with the Edinburgh club picking up a shock 2-0 win in league action at Celtic Park.
