Rangers: Jeff Stelling and Ally McCoist gush over James Tavernier record
Jeff Stelling was stunned after Ally McCoist shared the goalscoring record of James Tavernier at Rangers after he scored the winner in the Viaplay Cup final.
The legendary broadcaster was wowed by the revelation that Tavernier scored his 115th Rangers goal in the 1-0 win against Aberdeen, as McCoist expressed his delight in the victory.
The pair also commented on the importance of the goals he has scored, and the fact that he has done all of it from right-back, making the achievement even more impressive.

Speaking live on talkSPORT [18 December, 09:49], McCoist shared: “How many goals do you think he’s scored? 115. That was his 115th from the right-back position.”
Stelling was stunned by the record, as he expressed: “Wow. Incredible, isn’t it? Absolutely incredible. I mean he gets a few penalties amongst them but he also gets plenty from normal play.”
McCoist then backed up the Rangers captain, stating: “And important ones. Really important ones.” Before Stelling rounded off the praise, stating: “What a servant he has been for Rangers. Brilliant.”
Legends don’t come better than this
There are plenty of legends held in high esteem at Rangers, but Tavernier has sealed his place right up there with the best of them, with his latest winning goal meaning he has now won every domestic trophy there is to win in his eight years at Ibrox.
His goalscoring record despite occupying a defensive position is something to be marvelled at, and despite taking every set-piece including penalties for Rangers, he chips in with plenty of goals from open play as well as he proved at Hampden Park.

To have another Rangers legend in the form of McCoist speaking so highly of him at every given opportunity is another display of just how highly-regarded Tavernier is on the blue side of Glasgow.
His goalscoring record, leadership and influence on the side since arriving in 2015 is almost unheard of in modern football, and if he hadn’t already, his winning goal against Aberdeen would have written him into Ibrox folklore forever.
