Journalist takes exception to ‘strange’ Barry Robson comments after Rangers win vs Aberdeen
Journalist Barry Anderson has questioned the “strange” comments made by Aberdeen boss Barry Robson following his side’s loss to Rangers.
Speaking after the Gers’ 1-0 win in Sunday’s (17 December) Viaplay Cup final, Robson said Aberdeen had “no right to run the whole game”.
However, National World reporter Anderson took exception to those comments from Robson, citing Alex Ferguson’s time in charge of the Dons.
“Strange view from Barry Robson (who I like),” Anderson posted on his personal Twitter page.
“Clubs who want to win trophies need to stand up to Celtic and Rangers in Glasgow without feeling intimidated.
“That attitude underpinned Aberdeen’s success under Alex Ferguson. CFC & RFC both vulnerable at times this season.”
No shots on target
Rangers can so often win half the battle before even stepping foot onto the pitch, but that was not necessarily the case in this game.
The Gers were ultimately better than Aberdeen over the 90 minutes and managed to get the job done in the end at Hampden Park.
Robson’s suggestion that his side ran the game is quite wide of the mark, and that is reflected in the statistics.
Rangers had 17 shots to Aberdeen’s 10 – and six on target to zero – while having 63 per cent of the ball and completing nearly double the passes.
In short, Aberdeen did not stand up to Rangers and they were made to pay the price.
Rangers deserve huge praise, though, as they came up against stubborn opponents in which they have struggled to overcome twice so far this term.
In this type of form, there is no opponent too big for the Gers right now.
