Confirmed: Rangers open talks over new John Lundstram deal
Rangers have opened talks with John Lundstram over a possible new deal, with Philippe Clement confirming that he has spoken to the midfielder about staying at Ibrox beyond the end of this season when his contract runs out.
The boss reassured fans that he has made his feelings clear about a potential new deal, commenting that the Englishman is an important part of his team and plans for the future.
This has come after former Eurosport journalist Dean Jones [GIVEMESPORT, 16 December] suggested Lundstram could be set to leave Ibrox after refusing to comment on his contract situation.

Speaking to The National [17 December], Clement confirmed: “Yeah, of course I am thinking about that [a new deal]. That is something for the next weeks, the next months for us to discuss.
“I spoke to him already about that, he knows what I feel, I know how he feels, that is for the next weeks and months.
“He is important in many ways. He is someone who never hides. He always wants the ball. He understands the tactical study we want to do every game, he changes every game to try and find spaces.”
A new deal should be high on the agenda
With Lundstram’s deal set to expire at the end of the season, Rangers must ensure he does not leave on a free transfer come that time, with the role he plays in the team as well as the quality and talent he has showing the Glasgow club must hang on to him.
He has played a starring role so far this season and has been everpresent in Clement’s team. His presence in midfield, able to break up play and redistribute the ball to his teammates, has provided a foundation for the club to build a strong attacking presence.

When things haven’t quite gone as Rangers have liked, particularly in the striking department, Lundstram has provided a stable base, and the consistency of his impressive displays makes him one of the most reliable players in the league.
Even if Rangers must lose such an important player, they must ensure he doesn’t leave for free. If they can agree to a contract and convince him to stay, it will be huge, but if they are to let him go then they could make some profit from the deal.
