Ally McCoist makes Rangers title admission live on air after Celtic ‘disaster’
Ally McCoist has admitted that Rangers have a great chance to win the Scottish Premiership this season following Celtic’s recent “disaster” against Hearts.
While Philippe Clement’s side lifted the Viaplay Cup final with a 1-0 win over Aberdeen on Sunday 17 December, Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic made it back-to-back defeats in the Scottish Premiership with a 2-0 defeat to Hearts on Saturday 16 December.
Rangers still sit five points behind the reigning champions but have two games in hand and McCoist has admitted that he isn’t getting carried away but does believe that the Light Blues have a great chance of lifting the title this season.

Speaking on talkSPORT (18 December, 6:07) he said: “I didn’t notice that (Celtic losing), the natives are getting pretty restless. You know what it’s like, particularly at Rangers and Celtic, you’re only 90 minutes or 45 minutes away from a disaster or a crisis.
“I don’t think they’ve been very good. Interesting times at Celtic.”
Jeff Stelling quickly replied saying: “Not getting too carried away? You’re in a great position aren’t you?”
McCoist responded: “Far from it. You win the first one, you’ve got a chance mate.”
Not getting carried away
Celtic looked to be well on their way to another title this season as Rangers struggled under the management of Micahel Beale at the start of the campaign, but since Clement has arrived in Glasgow the entire picture has shifted in the Premiership.
If the Light Blues win their games in hand, they’ll climb to the top of the table and with the current mood around Ibrox, it feels unlikely that the Gers will slip up again. With wins over Betis and Aberdeen, confidence is high in Clement’s side and they’ll be eyeing that title.

The Old Firm clashes between the two sides will be crucial between now and the end of the campaign. Under Beale earlier this season, Rangers looked miles off of Celtic, but they’ll know now that a win at Celtic Park will help begin to close that gap over the festive period.
It isn’t often that there is a “disaster” or “crisis” at Celtic Park and Rangers cannot miss the chance to capitalise on it this season. The Hoops may be top of the league currently, but Clement’s side are the team really in the driving seat.
