BBC man left fuming at ‘sad’ incident in Rangers v Aberdeen Viaplay Cup final clash

Kheredine Idessane was left fuming at what Rangers and Aberdeen fans did before the Viaplay Cup final clash on Sunday, 17 December.

The BBC journalist reported that both sets of supporters brought pyrotechnics into the stadium.

He also singled out Gers fans as there was smoke that emanated from that stand and then flew to the rest of the arena.

Idesanne wrote on the BBC blog on 17 December at 15:01, “Sad to report that some fans, at both ends of the ground, have brought pyrotechnics in.

“Especially in the Rangers section behind the goal, from where smoke is now billowing across the entire stadium. Shame, because the tifo displays from both sets of supporters add colour and atmosphere to what’s building into quite the occasion here in Glasgow’s Southside.”

Big occasions?

While the use of pyrotechnics inside football grounds is not condoned due to safety concerns, fans often get carried away on significant occasions, such as cup final clashes.

These high-stakes matches evoke intense emotions and passionate displays of support.

Fans, driven by the desire to create a vibrant and memorable atmosphere, may resort to such actions, believing it adds to the spectacle of the event.

Big occasions like cup finals amplify the fervour among supporters, leading to heightened emotions that can sometimes result in impulsive actions.

Fans may view the use of pyrotechnics as a means of expressing their enthusiasm and contributing to the electric atmosphere inside the stadium.

However, this passion, when unchecked, can have negative consequences, as observed with smoke billowing across the arena in the described incident.

Thankfully, thus far, there are no reports of any injuries due to pyrotechnics as they can have devastating effects.

In other Rangers news, the club may now rekindle the transfer interest in a ‘Dynamic’ central midfielder amid a recent behind-the-scenes coup.
