Sarah Ewens aims to kickstart Rangers Women’s career after ‘frustrating’ start
Rangers Women’s star Sarah Ewens is looking to put her frustrating start to the season behind her when the Light Blues face Hamilton in the Scottish Women’s Premier League.
Jo Potter’s side welcome Hamilton to the Broadwood Stadium on Sunday 16 December and are looking to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League, where they currently sit a point ahead of Celtic after 15 matches.
Ewens joined the ranks in Glasgow from London City Lionesses in the summer but has struggled with injury and fitness in the opening parts of her Rangers career, but is hoping to put that behind her starting with Sunday’s clash.
As quoted by Rangers TV (16 December) she said: “It was really frustrating, coming into a new club as well you want to just kick on and start performing and to kind of have that setback after setback. Trying to get back into training and picking up niggles again, it was difficult.
“I think since I have come back this time I have felt a lot fitter than before and a lot stronger. I feel a lot sharper as well going into games, it is definitely good to be back and get on the pitch.
“I think we need to look at ourselves and really build on the performance against Motherwell. Hopefully, we will start strong again, start fast. We just need to play our game and also be wary of that, but building on the performance from last Sunday is definitely something that we will be looking to do.
“We can’t be sloppy with our play. We just kind of need to focus on that and build on the performance.”
Finish 2023 strong
Rangers’ season pauses until the new year following Sunday’s clash and Potter will be hoping that her side can enjoy the festive period knowing that they are sitting pretty at the top of the Premier League having picked up three points against Hamilton.
The Light Blues come into this clash in good form having beaten Motherwell 5-0 last time out and are clear favourites to claim all three points as Hamilton currently sit bottom of the league having only picked up three points in their first 15 games.

However, the away side did manage an impressive draw against Aberdeen last time out, despite being shown a red card midway through the second half. It may be an easy task on paper but it very rarely is that clear cut on the pitch in football.
On a personal note, Ewens will be hoping to kick on in her Gers career having picked up two goals against Motherwell last time out. Hopefully, the former London City forward can build on that form and finally hit the heights she was hoping to reach in Glasgow.
