Rangers miles ahead of Celtic as UEFA publish updated document

Rangers have been ranked 28 places above Celtic as UEFA updated the club coefficients as the Gers proceeded to the Europa League knockout stages.

Following Rangers’ victory over Real Betis on Thursday night, and advancing as Group C winners, the club were awarded 14 coefficient points as well as a bonus £3million, as per Daily Record. [15 December]

A 27th-place spot in the UEFA rankings outbids Celtic by 28 places, with their rivals sitting in 55th after another disappointing Champions League campaign.

Despite playing in a lower-quality competition than Celtic, Rangers are having much more European success while still facing tough opposition like Betis and Sparta Prague.

With West Ham, Brighton, Liverpool, Bayer Leverkusen and Atalanta all qualifying for the next stage of the competition, the Gers will need to prepare well as they advance in Europe.

But whoever they come up against next, Rangers can find solace in the fact that their rivals have already been knocked out of the Champions League, finishing bottom of Group E with just a single win in six matches and a goal difference of -10.

And although Celtic can boast of being five points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership, there is still a lot of the season left to play. The upcoming Old Firm derby will lay the cat amongst the pigeons, with Philippe Clement set to extend his unbeaten run at the club.

The Bhoys will be hoping to lift the 54th league title at the end of this season, with the Gers vying for their 56th. Despite Celtic’s dominance in Scotland over the previous few years, the boys in blue are still one step ahead.

That is furthered through Rangers’ displays in Europe as Betis, the team seventh in La Liga, failed to take a single point from either tie.

In other Rangers news, the club may now rekindle the transfer interest in a ‘Dynamic’ central midfielder amid a recent behind-the-scenes coup.
