Official Rangers partner receive response from Ibrox over Jack Butland ‘misinformation’ after Real Betis win

The suggestion that Jack Butland is only on a two year contract at Rangers is “misinformation” as it has been confirmed by the club his deal runs to 2027, according to 4 Lads Had A Dream.

The official Gers partner reported via Twitter on 15 December after the goalkeeper played a starring role in the 3-2 win at Real Betis the previous night that they had received a response from the club clarifying the 30-year-old has a four-year contract.

It had been intimated during a discussion with Ally McCoist following the Europa League win that Butland would need a short contract extended due to his importance to the club, but it is clear that what a misunderstanding.

Four Lads wrote: “Just to confirm. A very quick response from the club, Jack Butland IS contracted until 2027, 4 year contract Mentioned last night by McCoist that it’s only a two year deal, misinformation.

“Club confirm, definitely 2027 and 4 year deal.”

Wires get crossed on live TV broadcasts and it can spark confusion when it comes to important matters like the future of key players.

It looks like Rangers have their outstanding summer acquisition, who along with Abdallah Sima have prevented Michael Beale’s transfer business from being a complete flop, prior to the Betis win anyway, for the long haul.

But if he continues to produce performances like the one in Spain, which he has done for the lion’s share of his time as a Light Blues player so far, they may well be tested before long.

But it is surely going to take serious money to tempt Philippe Clement to let go of the former England international, who has stepped into Allan McGregor’s shoes and not looked back.

There were suddenly a whole host of positive developments within the depleted squad for the huge European win, such as Cyriel Dessers’ breakout night, the second-half performance from Dujon Sterling, and Kemar Roofe reminding everyone of what he can do when he is fit with the winner.

But Butland proving crucial at the back wasn’t a revelation at all as it has been a feature of what has been a disappointing season so far, and the news that he has plenty of time left on his contract should put a few minds at ease.

In other Rangers news, a key transfer hurdle has been cleared in the bid to sign the club’s best player.
