Derek McInnes sings praises of ‘Outstanding’ Rangers star John Lundstram after win vs Real Betis
Derek McInnes has praised the impact of John Lundstram since Philippe Clement became the Rangers manager after his “outstanding” performance against Real Betis.
Lundstram has been a regular in central midfield since the Belgian arrived at Ibrox and has rediscovered the form that saw him become a key member of Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side two seasons ago.
And speaking after the game live on TNT Sports (14 December, 22:16), McInnes said he had gone to “another level” in recent weeks and was helping others in the squad perform better too.

“I thought Lundstram was outstanding tonight,” he said.
“There’s been a lot of emphasis put on his shoulders with the injuries they’ve had in there with Raskin and Ryan Jack out, and Cifuentes being sent off at the weekend.
“And I think Lundstram has took his game to another level. It’s a similar level of performances that he showed when Rangers went all the way to Seville and I think as I say, he’s managing to get better performances out of some of the boys.”
Brilliant
Central midfield is definitely one of the weakest areas that we have in the squad at Ibrox right now with Nicolas Raskin and Ryan Jack injured and Jose Cifuentes failing to really make an impact.
But despite their failings, Rangers have been able to dominate most games domestically and are still unbeaten under Clement with some excellent performances because of the work Lundstram is getting through in the middle of the park.

His passing has improved drastically, he is far braver now, but his energy is relentless and he adds a real bite to the midfield to help us win possession back too.
It’s great to see him return to his old form after struggling under Beale for so long, and if he can keep it up then potentially renewing his contract may not be the worst thing to do to keep some experience and know-how in the side as Clement undergoes a new rebuild.
In other Rangers news, McCoist tells Clement to extend star’s contract ASAP.
