Tom English shares instant reaction to Rangers win v Real Betis

Tom English has reacted to Rangers’ 3-2 Europa League win against Real Betis by claiming European football is too easy for Scottish clubs, with the domestic games at the weekend set to pose a proper challenge.

The tongue-in-cheek comment comes after Rangers progressed to the knockout stages of the Europa League following a dramatic victory in Seville, given the attitude often shown to Scottish Football.

English sides Manchester United and Newcastle United were knocked out of the Champions League this week, as Celtic already had, but Rangers proved once again that they can raise their levels in Europe.

Taking to Twitter following the game, the BBC Scotland journalist wrote: “Europe is far too easy for Scottish clubs. Back to domestic stuff at the weekend for some proper tests…”

Rangers can celebrate – but for them, domestic action will prove a test

Although the joke from English will be received well tonight in the aftermath of a huge win for Rangers, it is also the reality that the weekend will bring yet another test for Philippe Clement and his team in the Viaplay Cup final against Aberdeen.

With another European tour playing on the minds of the fans ahead of the draw for the next round, it’s straight back into action for the players who simply cannot afford to get carried away despite the magnitude of that win in Spain.

However, Rangers can of course revel in the fact that they have once again progressed in the Europa League, while Celtic managed to win just one of their six Champions League games before crashing out of the competition at the earliest given opportunity.

Rangers

The players must keep their heads in the game, and after Sunday they may give themselves an excuse to finally celebrate. Clement will know this, and he will know how to keep their feet on the ground, as Sunday is as important as any game.

In other Rangers news, Kenny Miller was stunned by one Rangers star at half-time.
