Ross McCausland admits how he feels every day turning up to Rangers training at Auchenhowie

Ross McCausland is one of the most exciting prospects in the Scottish Premiership but the 20-year-old is still in disbelief at Rangers.

Following his debut, given to him by Steven Davis, McCausland has come on leaps and bounds, becoming one of the youngest Northern Irish players to score in the senior side.

He has now made 15 appearances in Rangers colours, fitting seamlessly into Philippe Clement’s squad. But the astonishment at walking into the Rangers Training Centre, Auchenhowie, is still apparent for him.

“It’s hard to put it into words because it’s something I have dreamt of as a kid, growing up a Rangers fan,” he said to BBC Sport on Thursday (14 December).

“It’s surreal but I’m enjoying it. Dreaming of wearing the Rangers jersey is a big thing and finally putting it on is amazing.

“Coming in, it’s always surreal. Every single day is a bit like, ‘wow’ and you’re always taken aback by it.”

Impact from the bench

Despite making 15 appearances, only six of them have been starts. While Clement has done well to integrate the youngster since taking over in October, it will be hoped by Rangers fans that he gets more minutes in the coming weeks.

As well as a goal against Aris Limassol in the Europa League, McCausland’s tricky skills helped the Gers claim a penalty against Livingston but James Tavernier was unable to slot home.

Not only has McCausland burst onto the scene at Ibrox, he was handed his first international cap as Northern Ireland fell to a 4-0 defeat to Finland. To perform in the EURO Qualification games, he must be pretty talented.

McCausland is not just useful as an attacker, though. As per FotMob, he has won 89 per cent of his tackles. But his nine chances created and 83 per cent passing success rate shows his ability at both ends of the pitch.

The only way is up.

In other Rangers news, the man expected to be first on the list for the Gers in the January window has been named.
