BBC Scotland duo destroy Rabbi Matondo after Rangers win v Real Betis

Alasdair Lamont and Steven Thompson have destroyed Rabbi Matondo after he nearly cost Rangers the win against Real Betis in the Europa League.

The BBC Scotland duo could not believe their eyes as the Welshman shot from distance rather than time-wasting in the famous 3-2 win for the Bears.

Real Betis nearly went down the other end and scored to ruin the evening, but Jack Butland stood tall to pull off another save and send Rangers through as group winners.

Speaking live on BBC Radio Scotland on Thursday 14 December, Lamont could not believe what he was seeing over in Betis in the final moments.

“What on earth is he doing?” he said.

“Rabbi Matondo shooting from 30 yards, it’s just so naive. That is going to go down as one of the worst bits of decision-making I’ve ever seen.”

Thompson reacted midway through that rant: “Astonishing.”

Rangers

Mindblowing.

Wow, some of these Rangers players do not help themselves, do they?

In a season that has had plenty of ups and downs, this is certainly the highlight with a huge win over La Liga opposition who are flying domestically and rarely lose at home.

Matondo is still trying to get back to 100% after his injury, and Philippe Clement will have been far from impressed with his decision-making and will let him know that.

That decision alone could see him guaranteed to start on the bench at Hampden Park against Aberdeen, that is how brutal the manager can be.

Lamont and Thompson could not believe their eyes and as Betis attacked following that, everyone will have been feeling the worst.

Thankfully, it led to nothing and we can all look forward to another huge game at the weekend with silverware on the cards, the confidence will be through the roof.
