Ally McCoist stunned by Jack Butland transfer at Rangers live on TNT Sports

Ally McCoist has been left stunned by Jack Butland’s impressive performances since joining Rangers in the summer transfer window, labelling the Ibrox keeper as “outstanding”.

The 30-year-old impressed once again between the posts as Philippe Clement’s ran out 3 -2 against Real Betis on Thursday (14 December) thanks to excellent strikes from Abdallah Sima, Cryiel Dessers and a late winner from Kemar Roofe.

Butland produced a number of excellent stops throughout the Europa League contest and was helpless to do anything to stop either of the home side’s two goals and his recent performances have earned him plenty of plaudits, particularly from McCoist.

Speaking on TNT Sports (14 December) he said: “Jack Butland has been the signing of the lot. In fact, he might be Rangers’ best signing for a few years.

“He’s been absolutely outstanding.”

Some player

Rangers needed a strong and steady number one in the summer transfer window to finally provide a consistent presence between the posts if they wanted to genuinely challenge for titles this season and they have certainly found one.

Butland has been superb throughout the campaign and has widely been considered as one of, if not, the best signing of Michael Beale’s tenure at Ibrox. The Englishman has saved the Light Blues in a number of big matches and it was no different against Betis on Thursday.

Rangers

Even though he conceded twice in the first half, the 30-year-old made three outstanding saves to stop the home side running away with it in the opening 45 minutes and followed it up with three more in the second period.

He’s being called into action too often because of sloppy mistakes from his backline, but he is almost always standing up to the challenge.

Whatever Rangers go on to achieve this season, any success will largely be because of the performances of Butland between the posts. While a number of players at Ibrox have flattered to deceive in the opening stages of the campaign, the Gers stopper has been in some of the best form of his career.

The Light Blues need to keep fit and healthy at Ibrox for many years to come.
