Ryan Jack now finished at Rangers as Philippe Clement briefs media with Ibrox update

It’s hard to see a future for Ryan Jack at Rangers after Philippe Clement expressed frustration at him being ruled out of the Europa League group-stage finale against Real Betis.

Speaking from Spain ahead of the Group C clash, Clement confirmed that he had hoped Jack, 31, would be fit for the game.

Unfortunately, the ex-Aberdeen midfielder has been left at home in Scotland with doubts no raised about whether or not he’ll even be ready to face his old club at Hampden Park in the Viaplay Cup final on Sunday.

“I hoped Ryan (Jack) would travel but he missed out and did not travel,” said the Belgian in Spain on Wednesday (13 December), as quoted by Rangers’ official X account.

Jack has always been prone to injuries.

He’s been a Rangers player since the summer of 2017 but in over six years, he’s only just managed to hit 200 appearances in all competitions for the club.

Since 2017, he’s played just 10 matches after the end-of-season split and in the regular 33-game season (minus the curtailed 2019/20 season and this season), he’s averaged just 18 appearances.

What’s most frustrating about Jack’s issues is that a good number of them have been caused or made worse on international duty with Scotland.

He’s been a bit-part player for the national team for most of his career but he keeps on being okay with playing – even though his body is surely telling him otherwise – and Steve Clarke had continually given him the green light too.

But against Norway on 19 November in a nothing game for Scotland, Jack played 11 minutes and got injured again.

As per the Scottish Sun on 27 November, there are going to be talks about whether he’ll ever play for Scotland again but this should have been something that was decided a long time ago because his continual, pointless appearances for his country have left him potentially at the end of his Rangers career.

Jack’s contract is up in the summer and there’s surely no way back for him at Ibrox now.

He’s a waste of a wage and although he’s been very good in the past, there’s no point in having him on board anymore.

In other Rangers news, a deal is almost done for this behind-the-scenes arrival at Ibrox.
