Kris Boyd drops Rangers into discussion about ‘disappointing’ Celtic record live on Sky Sports
Kris Boyd has dropped Rangers into a discussion about the home form of Celtic in the Champions League over the past decade.
Speaking on Sky Sports News on Wednesday (13 December, 08:06pm), the pundit said the days when Scottish clubs would reach the last 16 of European football’s premium competition are “gone” after the Hoops haven’t won a home game in 10 years.
He added that the performances from the Old Firm sides have been “really disappointing”, particularly from the Parkhead club as they have been competing in the Champions League more often than the Gers in recent years.

“I think it’s all that everybody ever speaks about when it comes to the Champions League in terms of the Scottish teams’ performances in recent years,” said Boyd.
“Gone are the days where they get through to the last 16 anyway because it’s been really disappointing, especially from Celtic because they’re the ones that have been in it more than Rangers.
“I think to end that record, it’s been 10 years since they won at home here in the Champions League. Everybody speaks about a fortress at Celtic Park, well it’s not for that reason.”
Not good enough
The performances from the Scottish clubs in the Champions League have been pretty shocking in recent years as pretty much no success has been recorded.
While many regard Celtic Park as a tough place to go, it’s been a happy hunting ground for many of Europe’s biggest clubs over the past few years.
It just feels as though the Scottish sides are losing more and more ground on other teams in the competition with every season that passes by due to the huge difference in their financial situations.

The Gers managed to put together an excellent European campaign in 2022 when they reached the Europa League final, but they since haven’t been able to back that up with any success in the Champions League.
Philippe Clement will be hoping he can be the man to change the Light Blues’ fortunes in that department, but he needs to focus on achieving domestic success first and foremost.
In other Rangers news, Clement has been left baffled by an SFA decision as an Ibrox fine is to be paid within days.
