Real Betis ‘stunned’ by William Carvalho injury update ahead of Rangers clash

William Carvalho is expected to feature for Real Betis against Rangers in the Europa League on Thursday (14 December), according to the Glasgow Times.

The Times reported on Tuesday (12 December) that the midfielder has left Betis “stunned” as he was not expected to fit until the New Year with a hamstring injury.

However, the Portugal midfielder has been in full training and can play Rangers in Seville in a game where the Light Blues have to win to ensure they make the knockout stages.

“Real Betis star William Carvalho has stunned the club by declaring himself fit to play against Rangers tomorrow, after he had previously been ruled out until the new year,” the Times wrote.

Still got issues

There is no doubting the fact that having Carvalho available is a huge boost to Betis and their head coach Manuel Pellegrini, whose side need at least a draw to guarantee their own progression.

But the LaLiga outfit have a lot of issues to contend with, with Brazilian winger Luis Henrique the latest to be considered a doubt and he was absent from training in the build-up to the game.

Nabil Fekir, Marc Bartra, Claudio Bravo and Youssouf Sabaly are all unavailable, while Guido Rodriguez is missing through suspension, so Pellegrini certainly has issues to contend with.

From Rangers’ point of view, they just need to focus on themselves and getting the job done in what is sure to be a tough atmosphere. The game precedes Sunday’s Viaplay Cup final, but they cannot take their eye off the ball in this one otherwise their European adventure could come to a premature end.

In other Rangers news, Barry Ferguson has provided a verdict on Jose Cifuentes’ appeal.
