Rangers transfer news as preliminary talks held with Brighton over permanent Abdallah Sima switch

Rangers have already held preliminary talks with Brighton over securing a permanent transfer for Abdallah Sima, according to The Fourth Official.

Writing on their Patreon page on Thursday (7 December) they report that Brighton are willing to allow the forward to leave if the price is right, but the current fee being quoted to complete the deal is higher than the Gers would be willing to pay.

There is no buy clause in the current loan deal so there would have to be negotiations between the two clubs and there is a feeling that Sima’s current form means Brighton are able to play the “wait and watch game”.

Rangers

Rangers spent heavily over the course of the summer transfer window, particularly in the forward areas on players that have yet to really find their feet in Glasgow, so it feels likely that the Light Blues will not spend an outrageous amount of money on Sima.

Get it done

Rangers backed Michael Beale with a lot of money during the summer transfer window and for the most part, his signings have proven to be complete duds, with the likes of Cyriel Dessers, Sam Lammers and Danilo not hitting the heights expected of them.

The only one of Beale’s attacking additions that has found the form required to be a success at Ibrox is Sima, who has scored 12 goals in all competitions from the wing this season, including eight strikes in 15 Scottish Premiership outings.

Rangers

While it is completely reasonable that the Gers won’t want to overspend on yet another forward after making that mistake repeatedly in the last transfer window, Sima has shown during his loan spell so far that he is more than capable of being a difference-maker at the top end of the pitch.

Rangers don’t need to be held to ransom by Brighton, but if Philippe Clement wants Sima in Glasgow for the long haul, the Ibrox board should find the money to make this deal a permanent one. The Senegalese forward is a special player and the Gers cannot afford to let him slip through their fingers.
