Rangers: Peter Martin uses Scott Brown to mock Ibrox flop Joey Barton as fresh controversy emerges
Peter Martin has mocked former Rangers man Joey Barton, labelling him one of the worst signings in Scottish football history and using Celtic hero Scott Brown to hit out at the midfielder.
The PLZ Soccer host hit out at Barton, labelling him a “mediocre midfielder” and laughing at the suggestion that he would pocket Scott Brown after the bravado he showed when he arrived at Ibrox.
Barton has been in the news for several controversial incidents of late, with his tweets about women in football causing outrage, and the opportunity to poke fun at the Rangers flop was too much to pass up on.
Speaking in a video shared by the PLZ Soccer Twitter page, Martin began: “Top five poorest signings in Scotland. For me, up there is Joey Barton for Rangers.
“I don’t know where the hype came from because I didn’t see it, I thought he was a mediocre midfielder at best. When he came here, he came with the great gusto saying he was going to have Scott Brown in his pocket.
“Eventually, it got so difficult to understand what he was saying in a press conference because Scott Brown’s fluff was around his mouth from being in his pocket that often. I thought Joey Barton was a flop.”
Barton was a flop
Martin is not the first to have labelled Barton as one of the worst signings in Scottish football history. An article in the Guardian from 2016 stated the exact same line after it was shared that the midfielder would be leaving Glasgow with just eight appearances to his name.
A 34-year-old former Premier League midfielder brought to Scotland to enhance Rangers’ squad ended up playing just five league games for the club after all the talk about how he would come to Glasgow and be the best player in the country.

That claim, coupled with his jibes at Brown and Brendan Rodgers, was setting him up for failure. He was swiftly released from his two-year contract for a small fee, and everyone at Rangers would have said good riddance and been glad to see him leave.
Gambling, training-ground bust-ups, and an early exit secured Barton’s place as one of the worst signings in Scottish football history, and that doesn’t go close to summing up his awful Rangers career.
In other Rangers news, Chris Sutton and Kenny Miller were shocked by one awful Gers man.
