Dundee manager Tony Docherty shares ‘huge’ Rangers admission ahead of Ibrox showdown

Dundee manager Tony Docherty believes Rangers are a team with “huge strengths” ahead of his side’s visit to Ibrox on Saturday (9 December).

Speaking to BBC Sport on Wednesday (6 December), the Dee boss said he is hoping his side can make a “better account” of themselves after they were beaten 5-0 by the Gers in November.

Despite admitting that the Light Blues are a “tough opponent”, he added that there are “weaknesses” in Philippe Clement’s team that the visitors will be looking to exploit.

“I wouldn’t say we owe them,” said Docherty. “It’s another fixture coming up and we’re on a good run of form. There’s been a real level of consistency in the squad recently.

“Rangers are a tough opponent and a difficult opponent. It’s our next game and we’ll be prepared for it like any other game. I hope we can make a better account of ourselves than the last game.

“This week we’ve been analysing Rangers, as we would any team. There’s huge strengths in their team but there’s also weaknesses. It’s about exploiting those weaknesses. We’ll be down there with a game plan and, hopefully, we carry that out.”

Confident

There will be plenty of confidence amongst the Rangers players that they can pick up another convincing victory over Dundee after the last time the two sides met.

It was a fairly easy night for the Gers at Dens Park, where five different scorers were amongst the goals as they laid down a marker that they can compete for trophies this season.

Clement will be keen to ensure that his players remain focused and don’t expect to just turn up and pick up the three points as the previous meeting doesn’t mean anything.

Docherty seems pretty determined to ensure his side put in a much better performance and they will want to prove they can compete well against some of the bigger sides.

They have been on a decent run of form lately that has seen them comfortably sit mid-table in the SPFL, potentially making it more of a game than their previous encounter.
