BBC Sportscene pundit wowed by what ‘wonderful’ James Tavernier did in Rangers win v Hearts

Neil McCann was wowed by what James Tavernier did in the build-up to the Rangers goal against Hearts on Wednesday (6 December).

Speaking on BBC Sportscene on Wednesday (28:48), the pundit said it was a “wonderful” pass from the 32-year-old right-back as he sent Abdallah Sima through on goal.

The 22-year-old then latched onto the Gers captain’s ball in behind before slotting the ball through the legs of the Jambos keeper Zander Clark to claim a 1-0 victory for his side.

“Hearts do try to press this,” said McCann.

“I mean, it’s one pass up from Tavernier, a little bounce from McCausland. This is a wonderful pass, but Atkinson’s got to follow the runner.”

Quality

It shouldn’t come as a surprise anymore to see Tavernier show so much quality on the ball after his delightful assist for Sima’s goal.

The Englishman picked the ball up close to his own goal, played a lovely one-two with Ross McCausland and then instantly got his head up to see if he could play one of the attacking players in behind.

The ball was absolutely perfect as it allowed the winger to run onto it in full flow after coming in off the left-hand side before showing great composure to roll it through the keeper’s legs.

Rangers

That takes Tavernier up to 12 goals and four assists in 26 appearances this season as he continues to be a creative force under yet another Gers manager in Philippe Clement.

The Belgian will be looking for his captain to continue making things happen for his side as he looks to challenge for silverware at Ibrox this campaign.

In other Rangers news, a journalist has detailed the Gers’ plans for the January transfer window.
