BBC Sportscene pundit blasts Danilo after what he did in Rangers v Hearts: ‘Totally Unnecessary’

Neil McCann has blasted Danilo after what he did in the Rangers victory against Hearts on Wednesday (6 December).

Speaking on BBC Sportscene on Wednesday (30:57), the pundit said he didn’t understand why the Brazilian forward took a touch before shooting as he missed a huge chance for the Gers in the first half of their 1-0 win over the Jambos.

He added that it was a “brilliant” knock down from Leon Balogun to the 24-year-old, but that it was “totally unnecessary” for him to not shoot first time as it allowed Hearts keeper Zander Clark the opportunity to set his feet and make the save.

“I just don’t understand why Danilo doesn’t hit this first time,” said McCann.

“I mean, it’s six-yard box. It’s a brilliant little knockdown from Balogun and it’s totally unnecessary to take an extra touch. It just allows Zander Clark to set his feet and get his positioning solid.”

No composure

It was another game where Danilo showed very little composure in front of goal despite having more than one excellent opportunity to get on the scoresheet.

The forward has scored six goals in 21 games for the Gers so far this season, but there are many who would have expected more from him after his previous exploits at Feyenoord.

The fact that he did take a touch before shooting when there was very little need for it just shows how short on confidence the Brazilian is in front of goal.

If he had been firing on all cylinders heading into the game, then he probably would’ve just hit his shot first time, as he made the same mistake again in the second half when another chance presented itself.

There have been some signs from the forward that he could be a good player for Philippe Clement at Ibrox, but he really needs to improve in the final third if he is to nail down the role as first-choice striker this season.
