Philippe Clement makes brand new Ibrox injury promise at Rangers AGM

Philippe Clement has promised Rangers supporters that the current Ibrox squad will have fewer injuries in a few months, at the Light Blues AGM.

Since arriving in Glasgow the Belgian boss has been unable to consistently call upon a number of crucial players such as Nicolas Raskin, Scott Wright and Kemar Roofe as they each have spent large periods of the campaign on the sidelines.

Clement has always been insistent since taking over at Ibrox that the squad at Rangers needed to improve their fitness levels and having appointed Tom Taylor as head of performance, he has promised the amount of injuries will reduce in a “few months”.

As quoted by the Heart and Hand Podcast’s Colin on Twitter (5 December) he said: “Injuries are case by case, we look at causes, human body, training other things. Getting a good director of performance has been important.

“I see players working hard, including injured players. Tom Taylor comes from a club with a great record for improving players.

“Give us a few months and you will see less injuries.”

Making progress

Most Rangers fans will have hoped that Clement could have waved a magic wand to solve the Light Blues’ injury issues and while it was never going to be that easy for the Belgian, he seems to be making progress in reducing the Gers’ absentee list.

It feels as though the entire squad at Ibrox are working too hard to help Rangers lift some silverware and improve on their difficult start to the campaign, with Clement heaping praise on the work ethic of the members of his squad, including those ruled out with injury.

The foundations are now in place for Rangers to build a more consistent and better-equipped side under his management, whether that be on the field with the head of performance, Taylor or the new director of football, Nils Koppen.

Clement is settled now after just over a month in Scotland and now he can kick on. Hopefully, that will include getting some of those injured players back fighting fit and then managing to ensure that they don’t break down again.

Too often players have been rushed back and have in turn picked up further injuries because they are not fit enough, both Roofe and Lawrence have suffered because of this.
