Rangers shareholders to demand answers after humiliation at Ibrox

Rangers shareholders are set to demand answers at the Light Blues’ AGM after their latest “humiliation” at Ibrox, according to Gavin Berry.

Writing for the Daily Record on Monday (4 December) he suggested that the shareholders at Ibrox will be keen to get answers on why the Gers have been unable to build upon their title win in 2021 and the early gap to Celtic in the early stages of the campaign.

In addition, the Rangers board will have to explain last season’s trophyless campaign and also their “humiliation” in the Champions League, where the Light Blues became the worst team in the history of the group stages.

Rangers failed to pick up a single point in their six group stage matches, tasting defeat against Liverpool, Ajax and Napoli and followed it up by failing to qualify for Europe’s premier competition this season after losing to PSV in the playoffs.

Humiliation

There will be few Rangers supporters who are particularly keen on reminiscing over the last few years at Ibrox, especially last season which saw the Gers fail to compete effectively on all fronts, but that will likely be the topic of conversation at the Light Blues’ AGM.

Last season and the start of the current campaign have been incredibly disappointing at Ibrox, with the Gers looking second best by some way in Scotland, completely ineffective in the Champions League and not fairing much better in the Europa League.

The Light Blues were unable to be humiliated this year in the Champions League group stages as they failed to even qualify for the competition. The Ibrox board have taken action to solve that by sacking Michael Beale and hiring Philippe Clement but that is only the start.

Hopefully, the Rangers AGM will just be the start of the Light Blues’ work to solve their problems domestically and in Europe, but this is by no means a quick fix for those in charge at Ibrox. There needs to be work from top to bottom if the Gers have genuine ambitions of catching Celtic and avoiding more “humiliation”.
