Rangers AGM to be tense after what Philippe Clement has done in last 24 hours
The Rangers AGM may still be a “tense” affair after Philippe Clement led the Light Blues to victory over St Mirren on Sunday (3 December), according to Stephen McGowan.
Writing in the Scottish Daily Mail on Monday (4 December, page 70) he said that the importance of the victory couldn’t be overstated, with the Belgian’s satisfaction likely being echoed by the Ibrox directors ahead of the Gers’ AGM.
Had Rangers lost they would have found themselves 11 points off of Premiership leaders Celtic, a scenario that would have made the meeting “tense” and “tetchy” but the current situation at Ibrox could ensure that it remains on edge.

Clement’s rotation of his squad will have earned him plenty of praise against St Mirren, with the Belgian “bowing to the wishes of supporters” by starting both Todd Cantwell and Tom Lawrence and dropping Sam Lammers to the bench.
Still doing a good job
Rangers have only had Clement in charge for 50 days and while the draw with Aris Limassol led to tensions rising in Glasgow, the Belgian has done excellently overall to ensure that the Light Blues remain competitive in all competitions.
The squad that was left at Ibrox by Michael Beale was a completely unbalanced mess, but somehow Clement has managed to ensure that they remain unbeaten, within touching distance of Celtic and their European hopes remain in their own hands.

On Sunday, the important thing for the Light Blues was picking up a result against St Mirren and while the performance wasn’t excellent it ultimately didn’t matter in the grand scheme of things. The gap to the top remains at eight points and slim hopes of winning the title remain.
The AGM will surely be tense after a miserable start to the season, but that blame doesn’t lie with Clement. The Rangers board allowed Beale to wreck this squad over the summer and the Belgian is attempting to undo his mistakes.
None of the blame should be directed towards the current Rangers boss.
