BBC Sport pundit predicts Rangers ‘might drop points after what he saw in St Mirren win
BBC Sport pundit Steven Thompson thinks Rangers “might still drop points” after being underwhelmed by their first-half performance in the 2-0 win over St Mirren on Sunday (3 December).
The Gers returned to winning ways after 1-1 draws against Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership and Aris Limassol in the Europa League, with Todd Cantwell setting up Abdallah Sima twice.
But Thompson, a former Rangers and St Mirren striker, was not overly impressed by what he saw at Ibrox, especially during the opening period.

“Rangers’ performance this afternoon has been enough to win the game, but over the course of the season they’re going to have to improve,” he said in quotes reported by BBC Sport (3 December).
“If they continue to repeat that first-half performance throughout the season, they might drop points.”
Work in progress
Was it a vintage Rangers performance? No. Is it a display that will long in the memory? Again, no. But did Rangers win the game? Yes. And at the minute that is about all that matters at Ibrox, chalking up victories.
It is a campaign that is still yet to truly ignite for Rangers and yet by the end of the month they could have their first silverware of the campaign in the form of the Scottish League Cup.

Throw in the fact that Todd Cantwell, hooked before half-time against Limassol, put in a very assured display in a central ’10’ role and Abdallah Sima grabbed a couple of goals then all-in-all it was a decent afternoon.
Thompson is right to be throwing out the warning in one sense, because it is undoubtedly true that more performances like that in the coming weeks will see Rangers drop points. But winning breeds momentum and winning is all that mattered against St Mirren.
