Journalist details Rangers plans for January transfer window, ‘They want to…’
Rangers will look to make a “couple of changes” during the January transfer window, according to Dean Jones.
Speaking to GiveMeSport on Friday (1 December), the former Eurosport journalist said the Gers won’t do anything “too spectacular or drastic” in the upcoming window as they only want to make changes that can “impact the season”.
He expects more of an overhaul to take place in the summer because that’s the moment when the Light Blues’ hierarchy can go “all out” to try and make their vision for the club happen.

“It’s always going to take some time to get this right,” said Jones. “I think January will be about making a couple of changes. We won’t see anything too spectacular or drastic. They want to make changes that can impact this season.
“Once we get to the summer, I’d expect more of an overhaul. I think that that’s the moment when you have to buy into the vision and go all out to try and make it happen. But it’s not easy in January, and it’s probably not sensible to go into the market with all guns blazing.”
Cautious
There could be a reasonably cautious approach from Rangers during the January transfer window as any panic buying can lead to overspending and signing players that don’t tie in with your long-term plan.
While Philippe Clement will be fully aware that he needs to add more quality to his side, he won’t want to jump at any deals that he isn’t completely sure about.
His predecessor Michael Beale made the mistake of moving on too many players in exchange for several new additions and that just created chaos.

The Light Blues will be looking to learn from their mistakes of the past and, while they will still be keen to fight for trophies this season, they won’t want to take any unnecessary risks.
The real changes will come next summer when the Belgian can really get his teeth into the squad and more players will be available.
In other Rangers news, the Gers have agreed terms on a behind-the-scenes appointment for January.
