Rangers: Sam Lammers tipped to exit Ibrox in January transfer window, ‘Heerenveen written all over him’

Calum Crowe has tipped Sam Lammers to depart Rangers when the January transfer window opens, suggesting the Dutchman has “Heerenveen written all over him.”

The 26-year-old had a disastrous evening for Philippe Clement’s side at Ibrox in the Light Blues draw with Aris Limassol on Thursday (30 November), struggling to impact proceedings until he was substituted by the Belgian after 58 minutes.

Lammers has struggled to find his feet in Glasgow since joining Rangers in the summer, only finding the net twice in the Scottish Premiership and Crowe believes a loan exit for the Dutchman is nailed on after his latest poor performance.

Writing in the Scottish Daily Mail (1 December, page 87) he said: “When Lammers did eventually depart on 57 minutes, he was met with ironic cheers from the crowd as he trotted off to be replaced by Tom Lawrence.

“The final nail in the Dutchman’s coffin you would suspect. With the January transfer window just around the corner, Lammers looks like he has a loan move to the likes of a Groningen or Heerenveen written all over him.”

Get him gone

While a number of Michael Beale’s additions during the summer transfer window have flattered to deceive, few have been as dreadful in a Rangers shirt than Lammers who has looked worse and worse with each passing week at Ibrox.

On Thursday evening, the 26-year-old played as though he had been plucked from the crowd to start the crucial Europa League clash as he looked off of the pace. That would be excusable from an academy prospect, but it is unforgivable from a marquee signing.

Rangers

It would certainly be best for all parties if Rangers were able to get him out of Ibrox on loan in January, but it feels as though the Light Blues may struggle to find a suitor for the Dutchman given his recent form.

Even the likes of Groningen and Heerenveen won’t be jumping at the opportunity to sign Lammers for the second half of the campaign as he has shown very little since joining Rangers to suggest that he could influence games at any level.

Rangers could be stuck with Lammers for a while yet, but surely after Thursday’s dreadful display, Clement cannot continue to start the 26-year-old in the coming weeks.
