‘Absolutely appalling’ – Official Ibrox partner fume at Rangers pair after what they saw v Aris Limassol

Heart and Hand were absolutely furious with Rangers defenders Ben Davies and John Souttar after Aris Limassol opened the scoring at Ibrox.

The Europa League group stage clash saw the Cypriot side take the lead after half an hour with a simple long ball over the top pounced upon by Shevy Babicka, who rounded Jack Butland and tapped the ball into an empty net.

And the podcast and official club partner were raging at the circumstances of the goal, labelling it “absolutely appalling” on their personal Twitter account (30 November).

“An absolutely appalling goal to lose,” they wrote.

“Just a simple ball over the top and the Rangers centre-halves (John Souttar and Ben Davies) are nowhere near.”

Shocking

It’s basic schoolboy stuff when you’re pressing high as a team to ensure that someone is ready to run backward if you end up losing possession.

It seemed like both Ben Davies and John Souttar weren’t prepared for that scenario and Babicka found it really easy to get in behind and then beat Butland to score the goal.

Rangers

Connor Goldson has been the first choice defender at the club for years and people have sometimes questioned why, but those lapses in concentration are especially rare when he is in the side which means he gives himself a chance all the time.

Souttar and Davies have found themselves behind veteran Leon Balogun in recent times and this is probably why. Things like that just aren’t acceptable at the highest level.

Thankfully they woke up after that and played better, while the team managed to pick it up and get themselves a point from the game eventually but that can’t become a regular thing or we’ll always be climbing mountains to win games.
