Rangers fans should be ‘extremely worried’ claims pundit after what he saw in draw with Aris Limassol at Ibrox

Tam McManus has claimed he would be “extremely worried” if he was a Rangers fan after seeing the lack of quality in the 1-1 draw with Aris Limassol.

The pundit reacted on Twitter after the final whistle on the 30 November to claim the performance was “as poor as I’ve seen Rangers”, with only goalscorer Ross McCausland singled out for any praise.

Former Hibs striker McManus particularly highlighted the dearth of spark in attacking areas aside from the 20-year-old winger in a scathing assessment of the action at Ibrox.

McManus wrote: “As poor as I’ve seen Rangers in a long time at home in Europe. Really lacked any sort of creativity bar young McAusland who gave the whole place a lift & scored a great goal.

“I’d be extremely worried looking at that squad if I was a Rangers fan particularly in the forward areas.”

Dismal

It looks like the honeymoon period for Philippe Clement is over after a second flat 1-1 draw in the space of a week, after escaping from Pittodrie with a late leveller from the spot against Aberdeen at the weekend.

The Belgian has largely been very impressive since his arrival but as the new-manager bounce is apparently now wearing off the performances are starting to look worryingly familiar after the start to the campaign under Michael Beale.

McCausland’s first goal and overall performance was encouraging, but begs the question of why he wasn’t on from the start when Tom Lawrence had been dropped from the league draw.

Rangers

Why Sam Lammers got the nod only Clement will know as the struggling summer signing was again a shadow of what he was supposed to be when he came in.

Injuries in midfield haven’t helped but Jose Cifuentes was a long way off the pace in the first half, while for the second game running a separate centre-back pairing have been done for pace to concede.

There are suddenly a lot of the same questions for Clement to answer that Beale couldn’t and with a key cup final and Old Firm derby before the January transfer window he has to find solutions in house.

In other Rangers news, a BBC pundit admitted he was shocked by what he saw the manager do during the disappointing draw.
