Ross McCausland reveals decisions made before signing new contract with Rangers

Ross McCausland has revealed that signing a new contract with Rangers was an easy decision despite the surrounding transfer speculation from other clubs.

Recently signing himself to another four years at the Ibrox, the 20-year-old has flourished under boss Philippe Clement and was even handed his Northern Ireland debut in a 4-0 defeat to Finland, earning the Man of the Match award during his 59-minute cameo.

It is understood that several clubs in England and Europe were interested in landing the young talent’s signature. However, McCausland never had any other outcome in mind when it came to his next step.

“It is an absolute dream come true,” he stated in a press conference ahead of Rangers’ Europa League match against Aris Limassol.

“To finally get it [the new contract] done and over the line is amazing. It was a pretty easy decision, as well as joining the club when I was 16.

“There were talks of other clubs being interested but that was never something that was on my mind. I just wanted to focus on what I was doing, which is also when the international call-up came.”

Pressure can form diamonds

McCausland has been an impressive addition to Clement’s squad since graduating from Rangers’ academy. At just 20 years of age, he is already one of the most dynamic and intriguing attackers in Gers’ arsenal and could be a huge player for the club in the future.

Integrating McCausland into the squad so quickly could have been a difficult process for such a young player, but he has taken the challenge in his stride and even earned himself a senior cap for his country.

The sky is the limit for this young forward, and the new contract will only give him more confidence that he could be the future of the club. Especially in the attacking sense, Clement’s players are ageing and bringing through exciting youth players will bring a spark to the way Rangers play on the pitch.

With the amount of interest in him, it was extremely important to tie him down until 2027 and give him the chance to thrive in a team chasing trophies each season. McCausland could be a key player in bringing the league title back to the Ibrox, while his impact could make the difference in a tough Europa League campaign.

In other Rangers news, a BBC journalist has raged over a “daft” incident in the recent 1-1 draw with Aberdeen as a 30-year record was denied.
