James Tavernier handed Scottish Premiership Team of the Week place after Rangers 1-1 draw v Aberdeen

Rangers captain James Tavernier has been handed a place in the WhoScored Scottish Premiership Team of the Week.

The defender netted a 94th-minute penalty as the Gers drew 1-1 with Aberdeen at Pittodrie on Sunday (26 November).

The point leaves Rangers second in the Scottish Premiership table on 28 points, eight points behind leaders and fierce rivals Celtic.

“James Tavernier salvaged a point for Rangers at Aberdeen on Sunday with a late penalty to secure his side a point at Pittodrie,” as reported by Sky Sports.

“Tavernier hit the back of the net with one of four shots at the Dons, and would have claimed an assist were it not for the profligacy of his team-mates, having made five key passes.

“With additional returns of four interceptions and one tackle, the 32-year-old is good value for his inclusion in the team of the week with a WhoScored.com rating of 8.01.”

Yet again, Rangers captain Tavernier stood up to be counter for, holding his nerve in the dying seconds at Pittodrie to secure a huge point for his side. But his teammates let themselves down on the road, much to the frustration of manager Philippe Clement.

While the man in the dugout be thrilled to have kept his unbeaten record alive, the boss will be annoyed that his side didn’t capitalise on Celtic dropping points.

Clement has won six and drawn two of his eight matches so far, but the Gers remain eight points adrift of the Bhoys, although they do have a game in hand.

This game was, however, the perfect chance to close that gap after Brendan Rodgers’s men could only draw 1-1 at home to Motherwell on Saturday (25 November).

A Tavernier penalty is becoming a regular occurrence once again this season, but Clement will undoubtedly want his attackers doing the majority of the scoring.

In other Rangers news, one Gers ace must force through an Ibrox move after a recent development, a January exit suits all parties.
