Chris Sutton names two players from Rangers draw v Aberdeen in team of the week

Chris Sutton has named two players from Sunday’s (26 November) draw between Rangers and Aberdeen in his Scottish Premiership Team of the Week.

Naming the weekend’s best XI in the print edition of the Daily Record (27 November, page 41) Sutton included Aberdeen duo Kelle Roos and Bojan Miovski, with no members of Philippe Clement’s side managing to make the cut on this occasion.

The two sides played out a 1-1 draw, with James Tavernier rescuing the Light Blues a point with a stoppage-time penalty after Miovski opened the scoring left-footed shot after only 11 minutes of first-half action. Rangers’ draw means the gap to Celtic remains at eight points as they could only draw with Motherwell.

Missed opportunity

Rangers headed into Sunday’s match knowing that if they came away with all three points they would have shortened the gap to Brendan Rodgers’ side to only five points, while still having a game in hand to lessen that gap even more.

But the clash with Aberdeen proved to be nothing more than a missed opportunity and in the end, Clement’s side were very lucky that they managed to come away with a point at all, given how late into the match Tavernier slotted home his spot-kick.

Rangers

There were a few reasonable displays from Rangers, but very few that warranted a place in Sutton’s team of the week. There is often a feeling that if either of the Old Firm sides drop points their players won’t be included as it is immediately viewed as a failure of some sort.

Roos was very deserving of his place between the posts as the Aberdeen stopper made an outstanding nine saves in the match to keep the home side ahead for much of the clash, only conceding once despite facing an xG of 3.75.

Miovski deserved plenty of credit for his excellent opening goal as he made sure to take the only chance that he got in the match, showing a clinical edge in the final third that Rangers desperately need from their own frontmen in games like this.
