Peter Martin hits out at ‘dreadful’ quality on show in Aberdeen v Rangers match

Presenter Peter Martin has slammed the “dreadful” quality of Sunday’s (26 November) Scottish Premiership clash between Aberdeen and Rangers.

James Tavernier scored a late penalty to cancel out Bojan Miovski’s opener and earn the Gers a late point at Pittodrie.

Tom Lawrence and Leon Balogun both hit the crossbar for Rangers, who managed 10 shots on target and edged the possession count.

Martin posted on his personal Twitter account [26 November] after the match: “A dreadful game. Not a great advert for Scottish football.”

Not great

On the face of it, this game had plenty going for it as far as the neutrals are concerned – 14 shots on target, a couple of goals and a late leveller.

However, the quality on offer from both sides was pretty low, with Rangers escaping with a point thanks to Tavernier’s late spot-kick.

A point apiece was pretty much the right outcome on the face of it, and the Gers could – and should – have won it through Sam Lammers.

Rangers

These first games back after an international break are never easy – just ask Celtic – and a point at Pittodrie is not exactly disastrous.

Philippe Clement will just hope the quality ramps up a notch or two come Thursday (30 November) when Aris Limassol visit Ibrox.

Clement’s unbeaten streak now stands at eight matches, but the Belgian will of course be disappointed not to have made up some ground on leaders Celtic.
