Tam McManus delivers financial comparison between Rangers and Celtic
Tam McManus has delivered a financial comparison between Rangers and Celtic and has explained why the latter have more leeway to make mistakes.
Gers recently sacked Michael Beale and Giovanni van Bronckhorst before that and those decisions led to the club losing money as both had to be given compensation.
In comparison, Celtic have been more stable behind the scenes and can afford to make mistakes signing a few bad players whereas Rangers cannot.

McManus told PLZ Soccer Show, as quoted by Daily Record, “Celtic can afford to make mistakes. Rangers can’t, and that is the big difference for me. You talk about Celtic and how much they have in the bank, and Celtic can afford to sign a couple that don’t work out.
“At Rangers, every signing has got to hit the ground running – and that is why you saw so much scrutiny this summer. It’s big money for Rangers, they haven’t spent that money in a long time.
“£4million, £5million and if you don’t start well you are written off. Celtic can afford to sign £2-3million squad players, because inevitably they will find a gem like (Jeremie) Frimpong.
“The two managerial changes will have ate up big time into that. I think paying of Giovanni van Bronckhorst and his staff then Michael near enough straight away has put a big dent in their profits. They have got to try and get it right but Celtic are in market now where they can afford to make mistakes.”
Tough times
Rangers’ decisions to part ways with managers van Bronckhorst and Beale over the last two years, accompanied by the compensation payouts involved, have impacted the club’s financial stability and competitiveness.
Compensation packages for managerial terminations can be substantial, diverting financial resources that could otherwise be invested in player recruitment, youth development, or facility upgrades.

The financial strain imposed by these payouts has likely hindered Rangers’ ability to compete with Celtic in the transfer market, potentially leading to a talent gap between the two teams.
Vigilance in financial management is paramount for Rangers to ensure sustained competitiveness.
Focusing on prudent spending, youth development, and strategic investments is crucial for long-term success which is why Rangers must carefully balance the desire for immediate on-field success with the need for financial sustainability to avoid falling further behind their rivals.
Learning from past experiences, the club should prioritise stability in the coaching staff, minimise the financial implications of managerial changes, and strategically allocate resources to enhance the overall footballing infrastructure.
